Vol. 451 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dollymount (Dublin) Bridge.

Ivor Callely

Question:

94 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine the present condition of the timber bridge to the North Wall at Dollymount, Dublin 3; if he has satisfied himself that the bridge is safe for the heavy volume of motorists and pedestrians using it, particularly in the coming summer months; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6690/95]

I have been advised by Dublin Port and Docks Board that the bridge in question was examined in detail some three years ago and was found at that time to be in sound and safe condition for use by designated traffic — that is pedestrians and vehicles weighing less than two tonnes. This weight restriction was put in place within the last four years.

The board spends over £10,000 annually on the upkeep of the bridge.

Every effort is being made by Dublin Port and Docks Board to ensure that the weight restriction is adhered to.
