Vol. 451 No. 4

Written Answers. - ESB Worker Directors.

Robert Molloy

Question:

82 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the arrangements, if any, made by the ESB in respect of worker directors, including board-room fees for annual salary travel allowances and fulfilment of workplace commitments as employees of the company; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6663/95]

Worker directors in ESB are appointed to the board by the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications following a ballot of ESB staff in accordance with the provisions of the Worker Participation (State Enteprises) Acts, 1977 and 1988. Appointment is for a four-year term.

The worker directors (four) are paid board member fees strictly in accordance with the Government guidelines for directors of State bodies. Their subsistence allowances are paid strictly in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.

During their term as members of the board, worker directors are available full-time to staff for communications, counselling and related matters. They continue to be remunerated in accordance with their category and position as ESB employees as provided for in the 1977 Act.
