Vol. 451 No. 4

Written Answers. - Army School of Music.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

90 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Defence, in view of the growing concern by members of the Army School of Music regarding their long term future, if he has spoken to the Army School of Music with a view to soliciting from them their views on any restructuring that might be envisaged in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6272/95]

The report of the Efficiency Audit Group has not yet been considered by the Government. Accordingly, no decisions of any kind have been taken regarding the future of the Army School of Music or any other unit of the Defence Forces.

It is envisaged that, when decisions are taken by Government, an implementation group will be established to draw up a detailed development plan for the Defence Forces covering the first three years (Phase I). The associations representing military personnel have been informed that they will be afforded the opportunity of meeting the implementation group when it is established. As I have already made clear to the House, whatever decisions are taken regarding the future organisation of the Defence Forces, there will be no compulsory redundancies.
