Written Answers. - Deer Farming Industry.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

166 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry in view of his response to Parliamentary Question No. 121 of 28 March 1995, from Deputy H. Byrne, if he will elaborate on his response to the representations of the deer farming industry; the plans, if any, he has for the industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6894/95]

A number of the issues raised in the submission referred to by the Deputy related to taxation which is the responsibility of the Minister for Finance. As regards the development of the deer industry, grant-aid policy is outlined in the Operational Programme for Agriculture, Rural Development and Forestry — under the schemes of grant aid for investments in alternative enterprises and for producer groups.

The possibility of extending the livestock headage schemes to deer is among a number of matters currently under examination in relation to the disadvantaged areas schemes.
