Vol. 451 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Grants.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

81 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the reduction of £442,900 in the road grants for 1995 to Waterford County Council in respect of non-national roads as compared with 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7142/95]

Grants of almost £103 million will be paid to local authorities in 1995 for non-national roads. This is only marginally less than the 1994 provision (£107 million), which was significantly boosted by a once-off allocation of £15 million from tax amnesty receipts. In the case of Waterford County Council, grants paid for non-national roads in 1994 were boosted by a share of these exceptional receipts. In the absence of any corresponding receipts in 1995, the overall allocation this year is less than the 1994 figure, but it still exceeds by £579,100 the amount paid in 1993.
