193 Mr. E. Walsh asked the Minister for Justice the number of persons involved in the management of beef processing plants involved in EU fraud who are being investigated with a view to prosecution; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7298/95]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that, arising from two major investigations into the operations of beef processing plants, six persons have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the Department of Agriculture and Food. In one case, two persons have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentence and the third person in the case is awaiting trial. In the second case, the three persons concerned are awaiting trial.
