Vol. 452 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers. - Capital Assistance Scheme Application.

Helen Keogh

Question:

11 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a request from Galway Corporation on behalf of the Irish Society for Autism for the provision of a permanent residence for young autistic adults in the Galway area; if so, if he will confirm that the approval sought by Galway Corporation will be granted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5058/95]

Robert Molloy

Question:

83 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in granting approval to the request from Galway Corporation in connection with the purchase of two dwelling houses to accommodate young autistic adults in the Galway Corporation area. [5269/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 83 together.

An application has been received from Galway Corporation for funding under the capital assistance scheme in respect of the provision of ten units of accommodation by the Irish Society for Autism. However, the application did not include particulars required to assess the eligibility of the project for assistance and to determine the amount of assistance for which it might qualify. Further details have been sought from the corporation and, on their receipt, the application will be further considered.

I am grateful to the Minister of State for giving me that information. When was the corporation requested to provide further details?

Galway Corporation submitted the application on 14 February 1995. I do not know the date on which it was requested to provide further details.

Was it asked to do so in the past two to three days, since the question was tabled? Is it a source of embarrassment?

It is not embarrassing; I do not know the answer.

Will the Minister of State send it to me?

I think section 6 of the Housing Act is relevant. The Minister recently confirmed that this scheme applies to groups of houses catering for only one category of eligible person on the local authority housing list. Will the Minister of State confirm this in writing to the local authorities? I will speak to her later if she does not follow what I am saying.
