Vol. 452 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

101 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education the reason school transport is not being provided for the family of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath in view of the fact that the school bus passes the house. [7832/95]

In order to be eligible for school transport, primary school children under ten years of age must live at least two miles from their nearest national school, while older children must live at least three miles away. I understand that the child in question is not attending the nearest national school, which is 2.2 miles from her home, but is in fact attending the next nearest school 2.7 miles away. The child may apply to travel as a concessionary fare-payer on a special service to the next nearest school.
