Vol. 452 No. 7

Written Answers. - Law on Prostitution.

Tony Gregory

Question:

38 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if she intends to re-examine the circumstances of prostitutes arising from the legislative changes of recent years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7851/95]

It is important to keep under review the working experience of any change in the criminal law to ensure that it is fair, proportionate, effective and enforceable. I am currently reviewing the changes made to the law on prostitution by the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 1993. Statistics are being gathered on prosecutions and convictions arising from the Act and an analysis of these will form the basis of my assessment of how the Act is working.
