Vol. 452 No. 7

Written Answers. - Eastern Health Board Application.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

62 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Health if he will make the necessary retrospective repayments to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W who had her application for financial assistance rejected by the Eastern Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8506/95]

Limerick East): The provision of maternity services generally is the reponsibility of the health board. In 1994 the Eastern Health Board introduced a scheme whereby a contribution up to a maximum of £400 was made by the health board towards the cost of a domiciliary midwifery service. The case raised by the Deputy refers to expenses incurred in 1990 and 1992 which predate the scheme considerably. However, the Eastern Health Board has informed me that it is undertaking a review of this case. I will be in further communication with the Deputy in the near future.
