Vol. 453 No. 4

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) Drainage Scheme.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

98 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the stage of the plans to provide Drogheda with a main drainage and sewerage scheme, including treatment plants, as envisaged in the major plan for effluent treatment in major coastal towns launched by his Department a number of years ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9543/95]

Environmental impact assessment of the Drogheda main drainage scheme was completed in July 1992. EU approval for the co-financing of the scheme from the Cohesion Fund was granted in October 1993; this covers the carrying out of planning and design work up to the completion of contract documents.

My Department has issued approval to the contract documents for the north and south bank sewers, subject to submission by the local authority of a certificate of completion of planning. Contract documents for Contract No. 3 (river syphons and outfall pipes) are being examined in the Department. The preliminary report for the treatment works has been approved and my Department is awaiting the submission of contract documents for this element of the scheme.
