Question:

113 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Justice the number of cases that were adjudicated upon in the Dublin Circuit Civil Court in each of the three years prior to the increase in the jurisdiction of circuit civil courts to £30,000. [9480/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 109, 110, 111 and 113 together.

Records of the number of cases adjudicated on by the circuit court are not maintained. However, the number of civil bills entered in each legal year in the Dublin Circuit Court Office over the last 6 years is set out in the following table:

Year

Civil Bills

Year

Civil Bills

1988-89

9,839

1991-92

14,611

1989-90

10,756

1992-93

14,115

1990-91

11,308

1993-94

12,771

As of 22 May 1995 there were 8,710 cases listed for hearing in the Dublin Circuit Court civil list and the average length of time between the date of lodgement of a notice of trial and the date of hearing of a civil case in Dublin Circuit Court is 21 months.
