Vol. 453 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Publications.

Charlie McCreevy

Question:

4 Mr. McCreevy asked the Taoiseach the cost in 1995 of all departmental publications initiated since 16 December 1994. [9411/95]

The cost to my Department in 1995 is estimated at £131,963.

Does that amount relate to new publications initiated since 16 December 1994?

It relates to publications in 1995. These include the report of the Task Force on Communicating Europe, the Operational Programme on Local Urban and Rural Development, the programme for A Government of Renewal and various CSO publications. If the Deputy wishes, I can give a breakdown of the figure of £131,000 as between those various publications. The largest publication in terms of size was the operational programme.

I have tabled the same question to all Ministers. Since 16 December last at least three Ministers have initiated new glossy publications which can be used at any time between now and the next election as election leaflets. These magazines will be published on a quarterly or monthly basis. I am glad to note that the Taoiseach's Department has not indulged in a similar exercise but he should take note of what is happening in other Departments.

The Deputy's Question is clearly statistical only and matters of policy do not therefore arise. Question No. 5, please.
