Vol. 453 No. 4

Written Answers. - Employment Statistics.

Ivor Callely

Question:

74 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of employment growth for the first quarter of 1995; the comparative figures for 1994; the likely employment figure for year ended 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9515/95]

Quarterly aggregate employment estimates are not compiled by the CSO. Accordingly, the information requested by the Deputy for the first quarters of 1994 and 1995 is not available.

The budget-day forecast for employment in 1995 was that the average total number at work would be 31,000 higher than in 1994. I have no reason at this stage to expect that the outcome will be significantly different.
