Vol. 453 No. 4

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Main Guard.

Noel Davern

Question:

81 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the progress, if any, that has been made regarding the restoration of the Main Guard, Clonmel; and when this process will commence. [9556/95]

Before the authentic restoration of the Main Guard can commence, a significant level of investigation is required including an archaeological excavation and a detailed examination of the building. Modern additions to the Main Guard have been removed and a trial archaeological excavation has been completed. A comprehensive architectural survey of the building is in progress at present.

The restoration of the Main Guard is not expected to be completed before 1999.
