Vol. 453 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

95 Ms. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has to invite applications for the disbursement of national lottery proceeds available to her Department for recreational facilities; the sum available for 1995 together with an outline of the criteria to be used in assessing the application; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10049/95]

The £2 million provided for the Recreational Facilities Scheme in 1995 is fully committed to projects where grants were allocated in 1994 and where claims for payment will arise this year. Grant allocations to new projects can only be considered in the event of additional funding being provided for the scheme and consequently, the question of inviting applications does not arise at this stage.

As the Deputy will be aware the criteria for the selection of projects was specifically outlined in the advertisement of February 1994 seeking applications under the scheme as follows: the priority of the proposed improvement-facility in relation to the organisation's existing facilities: the ability of the organisation to undertake the project and claim the grant in 1994; the amount of local funds available; the availability of the other facilities in the area and the need to achieve an equitable geographical distribution of funds.
