Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Meath School.

Mary Wallace

Question:

123 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the position regarding an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Meath; the timetable for the extension; the work to be carried out; the number of additional school places that will be catered for in the new extension; her views on whether this is sufficient to deal with the increase in school pupil numbers anticipated following the new housing developments that have taken place in the village over the past two years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10158/95]

I have included this school in the current building programme. It is proposed to provide an additional four classrooms, a GP room and ancillary accommodation. The Department's inspectorate is currently reviewing enrolment projections to ensure that the additional accommodation will meet future needs. The information will be available within the next couple of weeks and the Department will be in touch with the school authorities to advise them of the position. At this stage I cannot give a realistic estimate of when work on site could commence.
