I propose to take Questions Nos. 43, 58, 175 and 176 together.

My Department has prepared a strategy statement which describes its purpose as a Department and what it is trying to achieve in its work. The Department's overall mission is: to optimise Ireland's earnings from trade and tourism thereby increasing employment and wealth creation in Ireland.

The mission statement is supported by trade, tourism and corporate objectives.

The trade objective is to increase sales of Irish goods and services and particularly to increase exports from indigenous business by 50 per cent in real terms by 1999. On the tourism side, the Department's objective is: to maximise revenue and employment from the development of a sustainable tourism industry, and, in particular, to achieve a growth of 25 per cent in real terms (over 1993 levels) in foreign tourism revenue by 1996 and 50 per cent by 1999 thereby creating an extra 35,000 jobs in the economy. Both the tourism and trade objectives are complemented by a corporate objective which is to ensure that the Department meets, to the highest standard possible, the requirements of the Oireachtas, the Government, the Minister and the public.
Our mission statements and objectives are underpinned by a series of activities and key tasks, which have been identified as crucial to the attainment of our goals.
