Tony Killeen

Question:

200 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, he has to regulate against tourist operators who establish temporary hostels; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11035/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 46 and 200 together.

Under the Tourist Traffic Acts, 1939 to 1987 operators may not use the title of holiday and youth hostel to describe their premises unless such premises are first registered with Bord Fáilte. Having said that, I am not aware of any widespread concern on the part of the industry in relation to temporary hostel type accommodation nor of any significant incidence of such practice.
