Éamon Ó Cuív

49 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, he has to establish a tourist ombudsman to deal with complaints effectively; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10775/95]

Tony Killeen

Question:

199 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, he has to establish a tourist ombudsman to deal effectively with complaints; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11034/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 49 and 199 together.

Complaints by visitors are dealt with effectively by Bord Fáilte, Shannon Development and the regional tourism organisations. Bord Fáilte monitors the agreed complaint processing procedures to ensure that they are being administered effectively. The small claims courts are also available to visitors as is consumer legislation in their own countries. I have no plans to appoint a tourist ombudsman.
