Vol. 454 No. 6

Written Answers. - Glenamaddy (Galway) Garda Station.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

157 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Justice the future plans, if any, she has for the replacement of gardaí assigned to Glenamaddy Garda Station, County Galway, who retire or are transferred. [11141/95]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 27 of 11 May 1995 which refers to the Garda Station in question.

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda manpower to individual areas and I am informed by them that the present strength at Glenamaddy Garda Station is one Sergeant and two gardaí. While one garda retired from the Station in April 1995 I am informed by the Garda authorities that the opening hours of Glenamaddy Garda Station were adjusted accordingly to ensure optium use of the available manpower in patrolling the sub-district. The Garda authorities are satisfied that this arrangement provides for a more visible Garda presence in the area and they have no plans at present to alter this arrangement.
