Vol. 454 No. 6

Written Answers. - Pension Schemes.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

98 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Finance the action, if any, he proposes to take to encourage persons to plan for their retirement and contribute to private pension plans to supplement anticipated lower real value of their state pensions in future years as a result of the dramatic increase in the number of pensioners at the turn of the century. [11346/95]

There is already comprehensive tax relief available for persons in respect of contributions paid by both employees and the self-employed into tax approved pension schemes. I have no plans to augment these arrangements.
