Before the commencement of business proper this morning I am obliged to deal with a matter of gross disorder which occurred during the Adjournment Debate last evening when Deputy Liam Lawlor defied the Chair and refused to withdraw from the Chamber on having been directed to do so. This necessitated the adjournment of the House and the abandonment of certain matters fixed for the Adjournment Debate.
I would have sought the Deputy's suspension last evening but for the fact that, under Standing Order 20 (3), there cannot be any division during an Adjournment Debate. Consequently, I am availing of the first opportunity to deal with this matter.
I call on the Tánaiste to name Deputy Lawlor.
