Vol. 454 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bio-diesel Production.

Tony Killeen

Question:

48 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications his views on the production of biodiesel. [10700/95]

In accordance with its commitment to the greater utilisation of indigenous energy sources, the Government highlights renewable energy as a priority area for further development. Fuels such as biodiesel, based on vegetable crops, have the possibility of contributing to our energy supply but further research is required on various aspects of developing a biodiesel industry. I have had discussions with potential developers and they are satisfied that the recently introduced tax concessions in the Finance Act, 1995, will now enable them to set up pilot projects.
