Arrangements are being made, in consultation with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, to seek Government approval for the signature and ratification, in due course, of the United Nations Convention on the Recovery Abroad of Maintenance, otherwise known as the New York Convention, and also for the ratification of the European Union Convention between the member states of the European Communities on the Simplification of Procedures for the Recovery of Maintenance Payments, otherwise known as the Rome Convention, which had been signed by a previous administration.
It is also my intention to explore the possibilities for arranging to have the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination ratified by this country in due course. The convention was also signed by a previous administration before the establishment of my Department.
