Vol. 455 No. 3

Written Answers - Food Hygiene Regulations.

Robert Molloy

Question:

16 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Health if he will elaborate on a statement by the Western Health Board that hospitals are not obliged to comply with Statutory Food Hygiene Regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12053/95]

Limerick East): The legal position is that food businesses carried on by a Department of State or a local authority, including a health board, do not come within the scope of the Food Hygiene Regulations 1950-1989.

Despite this legal position, it has always been made clear to exempted bodies, especially the health boards, that compliance with the regulations is the minimum required of them. That is still the position.
