Vol. 455 No. 3

Written Answers - Public Sector Recruitment Embargo.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

17 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Health the implications, if any, the public sector embargo will have on the implementation of the Child Care Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12047/95]

Mary Harney

Question:

80 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Health if he has prioritised areas within his Department in view of the embargo on public sector recruitment; if he will outline these areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12154/95]

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 17 and 80 together.

Having examined the implications of the Government decision in relation to recruitment in the health services, including the implementation of the Child Care Act, the Government has now decided that recruitment may proceed in the health service in line with the parameters on overall public spending set down in the Government decision. My Department is currently considering the prioritisation of certain areas and health service agencies will shortly be notified of the position in relation to all planned developments. However, I do not anticipate any effect on the implementation of the Child Care Act.
