Vol. 455 No. 3

Written Answers - Medical Indemnity Report.

Máirín Quill

Question:

64 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to publish the findings of the Interdepartmental Report on Medical Indemnity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12138/95]

Limerick East): The interdepartmental group on medical indemnity was asked to consider all aspects of medical indemnity. However, because of the escalating cost of indemnity premiums and threatened industrial action by non-consultant hospital doctors, the group was asked to examine and make recommendations on any short term solutions to these immediate problems. A revised medical indemnity scheme was introduced as a consequence of the first phase of the group's work. The report which was presented to my Department is an “interim report” and due to the sensitive nature of information it contains it will not be published.
