Vol. 455 No. 4

Written Answers. - Deafness in ex-Army Personnel.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

152 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Defence if he will review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who wishes to have his case examined by the committee dealing with deafness in ex-Army personnel associated with their defence duties. [12297/95]

Under the Army Pensions Acts compensation by way of a disability pension may be granted to a former member of the Permanent Defence Force in respect of permanent disablement due to a wound or injury attributable to service. Application for a pension in wound or disability cases must be made within a statutory time limit of 12 months after discharge.

There is no record of an application for a disability pension having been received from the person in question, who was discharged from the Permanent Defence Force in August 1991. As the period for making application is governed by statute it is regretted that there is no provision to extend the time limit for the making of an application in the case of the person concerned.
