Vol. 455 No. 5

Written Answers. - UN Conference on Women.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

66 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the proposals, if any the Government will be bringing to the forthcoming UN Conference on Women being held in Beijing in view of its importance; the particular areas of policy which will be the focus of the Irish delegation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12488/95]

The main task of the World Conference on Women will be to agree a Declaration and a Platform for Action based on the themes of equality, development and peace. In the negotiations on these documents, we will ensure that Ireland's position is put forward as appropriate, in co-ordination with our European Union partners. It is not possible to go into further detail at this stage.
