Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Recognition of UK Teacher Qualification.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

206 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education when she intends to reply to a request from a person (details supplied) in County Meath to have his British teacher qualification recognised here in view of the fact that the request was made on 22 January 1994; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12998/95]

The Registration Council, acting with the approval of the Minister, is the designated body for consideration of qualifications obtained in other member states of the European Union for the purposes of teaching in a secondary school in the country.

The application for recognition referred to by the Deputy is under active consideration by the Registration Council. I am awaiting submission of a formal resolution from the Council in relation to the acceptability of the qualifications concerned.

As soon as the resolution has been received and considered by me, a decision will be conveyed to the person in question.
