Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Millennium Celebrations.

Seán Haughey

Question:

8 Mr. Haughey asked the Taoiseach the plans, if any, the Government has to provide for a public celebration to mark the arrival of the new millennium in 1999/2000 and to commemorate the major events and changes of the 20th century in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13163/95]

The Government is considering the most appropriate form in which the year 2000 can be marked and an announcement will be made in due course.

I would also refer the Deputy to the reply by the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht on 2 March 1995, to parliamentary questions on this matter.
