Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Environmental Impact Statements.

Tony Gregory

Question:

189 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received the environmental impact statement on the Macken Street bridge from Dublin Corporation; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Dublin City Council rejected the statement due to the negative impact on adjoining communities; and the procedures he will now put in place, including a public inquiry, in this regard. [19027/00]

The environmental impact statement prepared by Dublin Corporation for the proposed Guild Street-Macken Street bridge scheme was forwarded to my Department on 20 June, 2000. The corporation's covering submission also explained the recent deliberations of the city council in relation to the EIS.

Public notice has been given by the corporation that written submissions in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed road development may be made not later than the 29 August 2000. The resolution of the EIA process will involve consideration by the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, or by An Bord Pleanála in the event of the commencement of the Planning and Development Bill, 1999, by the relevant time, of the EIS submitted, of any submissions made in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed road development and of the report and any recommendations of the person appointed to examine and report on the case; and final decision, in light of the above, on whether to approve the pro posed development, with or without modifications, or to refuse it.
