Written Answers. - Transfers of Clerical Officers.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

40 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Finance if clerical officers in the Civil Service who transfer to another Department retain their service and their seniority. [12685/95]

A clerical officer who transfers to another Department will retain service for such purposes as superannuation and eligibility for interdepartmental competitions. With regard to seniority the practice in general is that a clerical officer would retain seniority on compulsory transfer but would lose it if the transfer were voluntary. Issues relating to seniority are however a matter for determination by the head of each individual Department.
