Vol. 456 No. 5

Written Answers. - New Age Travellers.

Austin Deasy

Question:

25 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if his attention has been drawn to the fact that new age travellers are affecting the tourism trade in that they are congregating on certain beaches and strands in excessive numbers. [14079/95]

I have received a small number of complaints from the public about alleged hygiene problems caused by so-called new age travellers who have set up home on certain beaches.

I have referred these to the Minister for the Environment, alerting him in particular to concerns expressed about the possible adverse impact on the tourism potential of the countryside.
