Vol. 456 No. 5

Written Answers. - Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities.

Mary Wallace

Question:

67 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform when he expects to receive the report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities; when he expects to publish the report; the budget he has allocated for publishing and distributing the report; and when he expects to produce a detailed Government response to the specific recommendations contained in the report; and the intended process by which implementation of the accepted recommendations will be monitored. [14223/95]

The chairperson of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities has intimated to me that he expects to be in a position to submit its report in March 1996. I would expect the report to be published shortly afterwards.

The commission was allocated a budget of £200,000 for 1995. I will make provision to cover the publishing costs of the report, and any other expenses of the commission, in my Department's Estimates for 1996. Pending an indication as to the size of the report, it is not possible at this stage to estimate what the actual publication costs are likely to be.

Until such time as the Government has studied the contents of the report, there would be little benefit in speculating on the other issues raised by the Deputy.
