24 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the proposed starting date and schedule for the £50 million development programme for Shannon Airport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14676/95]
The Aer Rianta proposals for the development of the Shannon Airport terminal buildings were received in my Department on 29 September, 1995. I have already publicly welcomed Aer Rianta's preparation of a plan for the development of the airport facilities, since I am aware of the drawbacks of the present facilities. The proposals I have received will nevertheless require detailed assessment in consultation with the company to ensure, inter alia, that the planned benefits are obtained at minimum cost. This assessment will take some time, but I have asked my officials to give priority to the matter.
