Question:

79 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if he intends to sell off the remainder of the local authority loans fund to meet public spending demands. [13753/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 77 and 79 together.

As I informed the Dáil on 5 April it is my intention to dispose of part of the assets of the local loans fund portfolio for the purpose of funding the exceptional Exchequer costs arising from the decision to make payments to women under the Equal Treatment Directive judgement delivered in February this year. At this stage, I have no plans to dispose of the assets for any other purpose.
