Vol. 457 No. 4

Written Answers. - Allegations of Sexual Abuse.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

167 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice whether the gardaí in Drogheda, County Louth notified the North Eastern Health Board of a Garda investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by a hospital consultant, in respect of which a formal complaint was made to the gardaí on 16 June 1994; if notification was made to the health board by the gardaí; the date on which it was made; the action, if any, taken by the health board; whether this was the first and only allegation made against the particular consultant to the gardaí or whether there were others notified to the gardaí during the 13 months between the date of the initial report to the gardaí on 16 June 1994, and July 1995; when a decision was taken not to prosecute; the number of other allegations which had been made to the gardaí during this 13 month period against the same consultant; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15593/95]

I have requested a full and detailed report from the Garda authorities on all the circumstances in relation to this matter and I will communicate directly with the Deputy when it is available.
