Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

Ivor Callely

Question:

172 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the schemes that are pending approval in his Department for improved water supply to the north city area of Dublin; the likely timescale for approval and implementation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16301/95]

The schemes awaiting approval and which affect the water supply position in the north city area of Dublin are: Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant, Contract 1C; Active Leakage Control — Dublin Corporation; Stillorgan to Leeson Street Trunk Main; Mains Rehabilitation — East Wall, North Strand; Ballyboden to Stillorgan Trunk Main; North City Arterial Watermain, Phase 6.

My Department has commissioned a major study of water requirements in the Dublin region. This study, which is due to be completed early in 1996, will provide valuable guidance in determining future investment priorities for the Dublin region, including the north city area. Pending completion of the study, and given the high level of demands under the water and sewerage programme generally, I cannot say when approval may issue to these schemes.
