Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Halting Sites.

Dan Wallace

Question:

171 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the number of itinerant sites currently available throughout the country; if he will give an estimate of the capacity of such sites in terms of individuals; and if he will give an estimate of the number of itinerants in the country not settled in housing. [16300/95]

Returns from local authorities indicate that, in November 1994, there were 117 halting sites with a total of 922 bays, each normally accommodating one family. The annual count of traveller households does not provide details on the number of individual travellers. The 1994 count shows that there were then 979 households in halting sites and 1,085 households on the roadside.
