Vol. 457 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imported Vehicles.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

16 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for the Environment if proper checks are being made on buses and coaches being imported into this country from Britain to ensure that those considered unsafe by British standards comply with Irish standards as they currently exist; and if he will assure the public that proper safety checks are being carried out on such imports including checks for pollution. [15906/95]

All buses and coaches imported into this country are required to undergo a roadworthiness test here if they are more than one year old, irrespective of any roadworthiness test they may have undergone elsewhere. I am satisfied that the test standards are fully adequate.
