Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Judges' Appointment Cost.

Colm M. Hilliard

Question:

247 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Justice the estimated cost of the appointment of the 12 new judges at Circuit and District Court level proposed under the new legislation to amend the Courts Act. [15968/95]

The estimated annual total staff costs, at current salary rates, for the appointment of twelve new judges to the District and Circuit Courts and necessary back-up staff would be approximately £1.9 million. This figure includes the relevant salary, pay related social insurance and pension costs together with general overhead expenses. In addition travelling and subsistence expenses may arise. These could not be quantified in advance.
