Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Manpower.

Tony Gregory

Question:

250 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, in view of local residents' concerns that it was planned to bring stolen cars from several areas to an open pitch (details supplied) to be burned on 31 October 1995, whether adequate gardaí were available on the night to prevent this happening. [16072/95]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda manpower and resources to different areas. I have been informed by them that appropriate measures were taken in anticipation of any disturbances over the October holiday and the Halloween period in the Bridewell Garda district, Dublin.

The open pitch referred to by the Deputy and its surrounding area was attended to specifically by the Bridewell neighbourhood Garda unit, who assisted in organising a safe environment for parents and children so they could enjoy the Halloween festivities and I am informed by the Garda authorities that there were no disturbances reported in this area.
