Question:

313 Mr. Gallagher (Donegal South-West) asked the Minister for the Marine if he raised at the recent EU Fisheries Council meeting the fact that Ireland did not receive any extra moneys under the EU PESCA scheme which was allocated an extra £2 million, or 30 million ECU, from the EU reserve fund; and if Ireland will receive any extra EU moneys under the EU PESCA initiative. Minister for the Marine (Mr. Barrett):

As I previously advised the Deputy I am in correspondence with Commissioner Bonino concerning the recent allocation by the Commission of the Community Initiatives reserve fund which did not in Ireland's case include additional moneys under PESCA.

My Department is also consulting directly with the Commission services on the distribution of the funds.

In light of these ongoing bilateral contracts directly with the Commission, I did not raise the matter at the recent Fisheries Council, but I would not rule out doing so at a future Council if I felt it necessary.
