Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Paul Bradford

Question:

41 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that people who wish to take a driving test in Dungarvan, County Waterford, can be waiting for up to four months; and the action, if any, he will take to improve this situation. [14913/95]

The current average waiting period for a driving test in Dungarvan is 12½ weeks. Persons who require an early test for reasons of employment or travel can be accommodated within about five weeks of applying.

On 2 November, the number waiting for a test in Dungarvan was 341. Of these, 126 had been notified of a test appointment, a further 78 had already been given an appointment but cancelled it and a further eight were unavailable for testing for various reasons. Seven new driver testers were recruited in August in order to improve the service and reduce waiting times. These have recently completed their training and are now operational.
