Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Iarnód Éireann Storage Facility.

Tony Gregory

Question:

62 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment if he will request the Environmental Protection Agency to report on the concerns of residents in the Cabra area of Dublin 7 regarding a cement storage facility (details supplied) operated by Iarnród Éireann in a densely populated district. [16278/95]

The Environmental Protection Agency is empowered on its own initiative to investigate incidents of environmental pollution or other matters relating to environmental protection. Only exceptionally should it be envisaged that the Minister for the Environment would request the agency to undertake a specific investigation.

The matters referred to in the question appear to come within the environmental control responsibilities of Dublin Corporation and should appropriately be pursued with it.
