Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Mesne Rates Refund.

Michael Creed

Question:

83 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Cork who has agreed to purchase an official Garda house in County Cork can be refunded mesne rates from March to November 1995, in view of the fact that he agreed to purchase the house prior to this date but delays in the Office of Public Works prevented the deal being finalised. [16030/95]

Contracts in respect of this purchase were sent to the purchaser in February this year. Correspondence ensued regarding the extent of mesne rates due and on 21 September 1995 the purchaser's solicitor, in closing the sale, forwarded the appropriate cheque in settlement of the purchasers total liability for the purchase, including mesne rates payable to that date. The Commissioners of Public Works have already waived one year's mesne rates in this case and see on justification for a refund.
