Vol. 457 No. 7

Written Answers. - Methadone Supply.

Willie O'Dea

Question:

108 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for Health the steps, if any, that have been taken to prevent a black market in methadone as a result of addicts being given a supply to take out, particularly at weekends by satellite clinics. [16181/95]

Limerick East): As the Deputy is aware, the Eastern Health Board is responsible for the provision of services for drug misusers in the first instance.

The question of the supply of methadone has been raised with the board and the board now plans to open the drug treatment centres at weekends to avoid problems of the type mentioned by the Deputy.
