42 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if she has considered the application from the Finglas West schools for a joint security project; and if she is in a position to give a positive response to the request by extending the pilot scheme currently existing for Finglas East and possibly other areas. A pilot security project, covering a number of schools in the East Finglas area, was initiated in 1993 on a temporary basis. It is being continued for a further year. In view of the significant cost implications I have no plans to extend the scheme to any other school or area at this time. However, the matter will be kept under review in the light of available resources.
